Sketchbook Development

So here I've started out with various mixed media elements. Which includes painting, pen sketches, pastel, crayons etc. I used various images from my research as I wanted to highlight specific areas of the cars.
so through various parts of my sketchbook I have enhanced and drawn in detail or drawn elements of the specific areas from the cars and engines. Through experimenting in various different styles and medias it has allowed me to see which experiments work with the topic I have been researching, it has also allowed me to find the area of the topic in which I have been most focused towards and wish to continue with and research into more detail later into the project.

Through my sketchbook  I have developed in various different styles to see which I think best fits with the whole topic of oval racing, I focused a lot line work and enhancing various shapes in which I saw through the images.
Messy Line work to enhance engine parts.

Taking shapes of the scuffs and scratches and turning them into enlarged drawings.
researching more into the topic made me realize how linear work was not progressing and didn't seem to fit well with the outcome I wanted. so going back to the drawing board I fully researched the cars, from the paint work to the stickers, in which then I realized the paint work of the race cars makes the race as well as all to be individual.
Mixed media samples showing mark making & pattern making

So throughout this project I experimented a lot with various styles of mixed media and drawing techniques. The one I decided to carry through to my main designs was spray painting, as it had the industrial edge which I wanted, I didn't want it to look perfectly neat, so I decided to spend many weeks spray painting engine parts to create layered designs.

I created various different patterns focusing mainly on the engine aspect and
wanted to show the true detail and shape through this method.
I decided to spray paint my designs as it is one of the race cars main feature, so I wanted to show that through my own way by exploring parts of the car and developing specific areas further.
