so from researching various inspirational imagery for my degree show, I started hunting high and low for specific interior elements to display my work on which would look inspired by my theme of oval racing. Nothing seemed to look as strong or industrial enough like what I wanted.
So one weekend I visited a scrap car parts yard in Cannock, hoping it would have either old seats or something that would inspire me,
I walked around and spotted two old wheels and a long piece of pipe. It then made me realise that a lot of the oval racing drivers build the cars themselves from scratch, so why couldn't I build what I wanted from scratch? it would be exactly how I want it to be, it would go with my theme and it would be purely inspired from the race car. So I took the pipe and wheels and went to the garage and sat there drawing up sketches of what I wanted. From this I started measuring out the pipes against the old chair frame/ seat I had to work with and slowly but surely things started to fit into place and fit with everything I wanted to do.
So I began cleaning and sanding the old wheels ready to weld, grind and spray them. so leaving that to dry I started work on my chair frame, I wanted it to be inspired by the role cage that sits inside the race cars and protects the driver. so from studying various race car interior I then planned out the positioning of how I wanted the poles. So I then began to start welding, grinding and piecing together my role cage chair. I wanted both the chair and side table relating to my colour palette so I decided to choose the colour I used the least within my work which was slate blue/navy which has worked extremely well on both my chair and side table. so now I able to display my work on work that is truly inspired as well as pieces of old race cars!
